Hand controls come in both wired and wireless configuration. The wireless controls have to be programmed to each bed and the procedure is different for each model and brand. I have listed the controls by those I have available, those you have to go direct to the base retailer for and those that are discontinued. The Model 810 hand control is one of the few controls that were made in two different versions that looked identicle but were not cross compatible. One is still available and the other is not. However, if you don't mind doing a little simple rewiring, you can switch from the discontinued model to the current model.

HHC is one of those companies that have parts that look similar but can be different wireless frequencies. To determine the correct hand control for your bed sometimes I need the Model number from the label under the base and sometimes I need the serial number from the frame of the base. See the example to the right of the label.

Many times the only way to guarantee that a hand control will work with a certain model box is to purchase the complete matched set.

CH05B-AS

This hand control operates a bed with a head and a foot lift motor but no massage motors. It is different than the CB05B-AS-FB in that it has a screen and just two up/down buttons. You use the select button to toggle between the head and the foot motor. The CH03 also looks similar but that one only operates a base with the head lift only. The CH10 and the CH13 also look similar but they have massage control buttons.

This control is one of those used with the CB18 control units. It is used on bases with a third motor for the neck tilt feature. It can also be used on bases without the head tilt but with a trendelenburg tilt feature. Just plug the trendelenburg motor into the neck motor plug. This hand wand is similar to the CH13 but lacks the 3 programmable position buttons and has a different FCC frequency. It can have either a grey or a black face.

This control is one of those used with the CB18 control units. It is used on bases with a third motor for the neck tilt feature. This replacement remote will only work with the Sleep Science (AB1 Style) Adjustable Base. Compatible with serial numbers starting with RTL14 through RTL16 and RQ14 through RQ16 to reflect bases manufactured 2014 through 2016. Serial numbers can be found on the metal frame of the adjustable base and in the owner's manual. This remote will NOT work with an adjustable base purchased in 2013 or prior, the remote pictured will look the same, but the internal components are different. Please call for more information on the Retro Fit Kit (2013 bases and prior).

Pictured above are 3 of the old E-series wireless remote controls. The picture at left shows where the batteries loaded into the side of the back of the control instead of the middle of the back.The picture to the right is the junction box that they were matched to. Even though it looks like the new Raven boxes, it was programmed with a different frequency so the newer Raven controls will not program to it. If you have one of the above controls and they or the junction box malfunction, you will have to upgrade to the new Raven control system. However, because the ports for the plugs on the old box are the same as the ports on the new boxes, you will not need the jumper kit.

110 VOLT HAND CONTROL

All 110 volt hand controls are no longer made due to liability issues frayed wires shocking the bed owner. The Maxwell to Raven upgrade kit will work on these beds. All brands other than Maxwell will require some cutting and splicing of wires.

To tell the difference between a 110 volt hand wand and a low voltage hand wand, look at the cord connecting the hand wand to the bed base. The cord for a 110 volt hand wand is generally much thicker that a low voltage hand control cord. It is usually about the size of your pinkie finger. Some are just slighly smaller. A low voltage hand control cord is usually much smaller, just slightly smaller in diameter than a pencil. Or it will look like the cord that goes from your land line phone base to the wall but with 6 wires instead of 4.

The Raven Upgrade Kit is the only option for replacing these hand controls. It consist of a new junction box for under the bed, a new wireless remote control and jumpers so that your old motors will plug into the new box. The kit is made for Maxwell and Ortho bases but can be made to work on most bases with 110/120 volt lift motors. Click here to learn more.

BRAND UNKNOWN

The hand control to the left is an old Ergo Motion control that is discontinued. If it is the flat 2 pin plug like you see on the Okin lift motors listed on my site, you can probably upgrade the hand control and control box. If it is not that plug, then you must upgrade ALL of the electronics - Power cord, power supply, input cord, control box, hand wand, head and foot lift motors and also the massage motors if you use them. By the time you do all of that, it will cost as much as a new base. The replacement parts would have a one year warranty, the new base would have a 10 year warranty.
